Interval normobaric hypoxic-hyperoxic training increases exercise tolerance in patients with coronary artery disease

Intermittent hypoxia training (IHT) has been demonstrated to be effective in rehabilitation of CAD patients by improving stress resistance and oxygen delivery (Burtcher M. et al.,2004-2011). We suggested a new mode of IHT, where repeated episodes of hypoxia interspersed with breathing by hyperoxia as more effective for exercise tolerance enhancement. In experimental studies adaptation to hypoxia-hyperoxia has been evidenced to evoke more pronounced cardio-protective effects than IHT (Sazontova T.G. et al.,2012).
